Ticket to Write – 39

One Size Fits All

I’m not a huge fan of this one, it didn’t really turn out like I’d planned (not a huge fan of the next two either) but what the heck, I said I’d put them all in, so in they all go.

One size_double

Dropping into
an ergonomically designed bus seat
which is somehow worse
than a normal one
elegantly curved
in all the wrong places
so I hunch, awkward, suddenly
aware of being
a non-optimal shape.
To be fair;
assuming ‘average describes all’
is not a bad strategy
for simple systems
like colloidal suspensions
or sweeping generalities
like ‘everyone has to eat’
or ‘nobody likes disappointing
people they care about’.
It is when you start assuming
that everyone thinks like you
that the problems arise.
Attitudes to ‘late’
conservat- or liberalism
& how sane
or intelligent
anyone is
force you to
say ‘what do you mean’
& declare your bias
or risk talking past rather than to people.
