(Digression – TCWT)

Ladies, gentlemen, sleemo ootmian of both genders, this is the author speaking. The Teens Can Write Too Blog Chain has resurfaced for the month of December, therefore, I am writing. We will get back to Nasriel soon, I promise.

This was the set topic: Which fictional world would you most like to be a part of, and what role do you think you would fulfill within it?

This is hard, man. I haven’t had to write to a topic since… last exams, touch wood.

Okay. Obviously, I would choose Star Wars. As a matter of fact, I strongly suspect it’s the only other universe I could survive in. Lord of the Rings? Not crazy about all the magic doodads, and Orcs freak me out. Star Trek? Detest with a vengeance. Hitch-Hiker’s Guide? Is just strange and illogical; I need logic. Narnia? Cute, but rather limiting in its possibilities. MacGyver? Does not technically count as another universe.

So, in the Star Wars Galaxy: like most girls my age, I would start out by saying, “I will be a totally butt-kicking bounty hunter like Aurra Sing!” But I am also a reasoning animal, according to Mark Twain, so I realize that even in Star Wars I would have to utilize my natural talents. These do not include firing blaster pistols and generally being a total snot, so I would be rather sunk on the bounty-hunter business. Also, there is just the titchy little problem that they tend to get slashed in half/mauled/arrested/etc. by the good guys.

Seriously, that does not appeal. While some girls might be all for getting beaten up and stun-cuffed by a cute hero (heroes will not be named, thank you) that’s really not my scene. I prefer to be on the side of the angels, even when they’re *ahem* losing. Which, in Star Wars, they actually do rather dramatically. See Revenge of the Sith – phew!

Okay. Bad-girl is out. I would probably end up working as a secretary for a Senator – this is actually what I will probably end up doing in my real life as well. If I was really, phenomenally lucky in the awesome Galaxy, I might end up working for Bail Organa.

This would have the disadvantage that I would have to watch in helpless, horrified disbelief as the Jedi were outlawed and murdered, and that I could do nothing to avert the walking disaster zone that was Anakin Skywalker, but there would be distinct perks to that job.

One: I like Bail Organa. “He’s a good man, for a politician,” as somebody once said.

Two: I would be good at the job; I am a strangely organized person and believe that “organized” should be as catching as bantha flu.

Three: A certain Jedi gets on quite well with Bail, and comes to visit with him fairly often.

Four: I would have half a chance of knowing that said certain Jedi survived Order 66. Most of the rest of the Galaxy would not have this comfort.

Five: I would be unimportant enough to survive.

I think I’ve just answered the question…

Now, I’m unsure as to the precise schedule of this chain, but I have it on fairly good authority that the next writer is http://deborahrocheleau.wordpress.com/, on December 5th, followed by http://thelittleenginethatcouldnt.wordpress.com/ on December 6th, and, God willing, one of them will have the rest of the skedder.

(Added December 7: Yep, debrocheleau did. Thanks, Deb.)

  1. How do you sign up for this??? I’d love to do it… 🙂

  2. Nice post! I enjoy the Star Wars universe, complicated as it is. Organa’s secretary is a very wise choice.

  3. Good post! I don’t remember enough about Star Wars to know who it is you’d work for, but it sounds like you’ve made a good choice.

  4. Tara Therese says:

That’s cool! I only watched as a young kid when Yoda freaked me out so I can’t remember too well, but I’d love to watch it again.
